EMDR Intensives
EMDR Intensives may be a good option for clients that have been engaged in therapy and are ready to do intensive trauma work for a short period of time. EMDR Intensives are available for clients aged 25 and older. I offer them in person at my office in Baltimore City or virtually to individuals in the state of Maryland.
Please review the following criteria to see if you may be a good candidate for an EMDR Intensive:
- I have time constraints that make the intensive more convenient
- I have already done some therapy and have an idea of what I need/want to work on
- I have good coping skills and using them is helpful
- I do well with self care
- I have minimal dissociation
- I have done EMDR Therapy before
- I have had a one-time traumatic event that continues to haunt you and cause significant distress such as
- survived a car accident
- lived through a natural disaster
- were robbed
- were sexually assaulted
- survived an event that changed how you see the world
EMDR Intensives are broken down into two phases – the assessment phase and the treatment phase.
Assessment Phase
- I will send you assessment materials to gather some basic information on your background and history. You will also be sent a worksheet to help pinpoint targets for EMDR and your goals.
- We will meet to then complete a thorough assessment to ensure your candidacy for the intensive. Typically, this is two sessions, each lasting 1-hour. Insurance typically covers these sessions (provided I am in-network with your carrier). These sessions are very much like a traditional therapy intake. We may also do some EMDR resourcing during this time.
Treatment Phase
- The treatment phase of an EMDR intensives typically consist of 3-6 sessions, with each session lasting 2-hours in duration. While a 2-hour session may not seem like much more than a 1-hour session, with EMDR it can actually equate to 3 or 4 sessions at once as we have more time for reprocessing.
Investment
Intensive sessions are $400 per 2-hour session. The intake/assessment session(s) are covered by insurance if you have Cigna, Hopkins EHP or BCBS/CareFirst, as I am paneled with those.
Please note: EMDR Intensives are not covered by any insurance. We do not offer a payment plan nor superbill for intensives due to the time involved and prepayment is required at the time of scheduling the intensive.
